Palau Perhentian Kecil, April - May 2011
Palau Perhentian Kecil is a tropical island situated at the north east coast of Malaysia close to the border of Thailand. Its has its name from the fact that the island was used as a stop over by early traders on there way up or down the Malayian and Thai coastline (malayan: Palau = island, perhentian = stopover, kecil = small). Today the islands (Palau Perhentian Kecil and Palau Perhentian Basar = big) are a popular tourist spot for scuba diving. The islands are surrounded by tropical reefs which are home to a large variety of marine species. Clear waters and small tides with usually only weak to average currents during the high season (March to October) make it a prime spot for scuba diving and snorkeling.
I stayed for approximately six weks on the island to do my dive master with Turtle Bay Divers (I can highly recommend them if you are interested in learning how to dive or if you just want to go for a fun dive as well). Unfortunately I didnt have too much time and opportunities to take pictures and videos. Either I was busy with my dive master and later I had an ear infection, so I only went in the water to finish the stuff I needed for my dive master. However I managed to get some good shots of the marine life of the Perhentians.
